Understanding the DSM-5 in Health Care Practice
As part of my Practicum Learning Agreement I took a course through Bow Valley College around understanding the DSM-5. In this course I learned how to access and apply the DSM-5 in a healthcare setting including being better able to understand specific diagnostic criteria. As part of the course I learned to use assessment screening tools, identify factors and criteria used to diagnose and treat mental illness and understand the key changes between the DSM-IV and the DSM-5. As a result of this course I have a better understanding of the role diagnosis plan in treatment planning and assessment. I am better equipped to review medical documentation and create a holistic, individualized treatment approach for each of my clients.
Included below are the key assignments I completed during this course.
