Meet the Author:

Hello! My name is Pamela.

I was born in Innisfail Alberta and grew up on a dairy and grain farm. I can often be found hanging out with my family and playing Majong on weekends. Otherwise I love to cook, scuba dive, travel, explore the mountains and my guilty pleasure is watching the Bachelor. There are many facets to my identity including being an auntie, a social worker, a traveler, an avid cook, a life partner, a daughter to two fantastic mothers, a hybrid mix of cultures, an advocate against ableism and a spiritualist.

But I am most proud of the work I have done as a social worker and the journey I have had completing my masters. I started off my social work career almost ten years ago working on a small island of Yap located in the Federated States of Micronesia. While living in Yap I worked closely with many American veterans and saw first hand the impact Operational Stress Injuries can have on an individual as well as their entire family. I then returned to Canada to finish my bachelors in Social Work. While studying as a full time student I also began to explore the disability world and work in the field of disability rights. From there I worked in the field of child protection and then moved on to a managerial role in a non-for-profit organization working with women faced with an unexpected pregnancy and families needing support. My social work career then came full circle and I once again began working with veterans as a case manager for Veterans Affairs.

Currently, I work for Veteran Affairs Canada as a case manager and hold several different liaison roles, as well as well as sitting on two sub-committees focused on improving the mental health services offered to veterans through VAC. In my free time I still volunteer in the disability world and can be found occasionally helping out with Power Hockey.
