Homes for Heroes Liaison                                                                                                              March 2019-Present

Veterans Affairs Canada

  • Liaison for the joint project to end homeless between Veterans Affairs, The Mustard Seed and Homes For Heroes. Responsible for connecting homeless, at risk Veterans to emergency housing, providing service verification for Veterans and linking Veterans to Federal Government programs for Veterans.

  • Built and maintained multidisciplinary relationships with the different members engaged in this project and provided guidance and direction around government policies and legislation.

Veteran Affairs Canada

  • Collaborated and networked  with veterans and the public  by attending all community, provincial and federal homeless initiatives and meetings, while acting as an ambassador for Veterans Affairs.

  • Acted as a consulate for the office around veteran homelessnes issues and provided support and guidance to case managers around community resources and government policies in regards to homeless veterans.

  • Managed a complex caseload of Veterans through a collaborative process of assessment, case planning, coordination, evaluation and advocacy for services and rehabilitation planning.

Triage and Trauma Counselor Practicum Student                                                                        September 2020-April 2021 

Carewest Operational Stress Injury Clinic, Calgary, AB

  • Managed a complex caseload of RCMP and veteran clients completing trauma treatment through the OSIC, while also providing group and individual clinical therapy sessions. 

  • Acted as an unofficial liaison for Veteran Affairs Canada providing direction and guidance around government policies and answering clinician questions related to veteran and RCMP eligibility for federal support.

  • Connected clients to community-based resources, ran individual counseling sessions, advocated for client needs with other professionals and managed several Centre external partnerships including Healthy Baby Network, Neighbor Link and Sagesse. 

  • Supervised practicum students, trained volunteer counselors, handled conflict among volunteers and was in charge of all services provided by The Calgary Pregnancy Care Center.   • Managed a diverse caseload of children and youth, their families and their individual family dynamics, all while ensuring  safety, supervising practicum students, collaborating with professionals, handling court applications, holding family meetings and conducting monthly global interviews.

  • Educated youth on various topics including safe sex practices, risk mitigation, drug use safety, domestic partner violence, the risks of gang and criminal involvement and the risks of victimization. While also maintaining all government requirements including case file documentation, community referrals, contact notes, legals and court appearances.

  • Accepted crisis calls from vulnerable youth and families, delivered crisis support in finding resources via strong communication skills and provided peer crisis counseling over the phone on a wide variety of topics dependent on need.
